Hollywood normally conjures up images of high-risk investments with volatile outcomes but in this interview, we discover a much more conservative approach to making money from movies. Our guest’s company makes loans where project has been awarded a state tax credit, secured by that tax credit. The result has been attractive and consistent returns over more than 200 investments in the past five years. This interview demonstrates the breadth and creativity of alternative credit providers, leading to an increasing number of options to generate returns in various niches within the private markets.

Harlan Cherniak is Chief Business Officer and oversees the Media & Entertainment, Renewable Energy and Asset Management business lines within the Forest Road Company, and is responsible for leading new business development and strategy around building or investing in new businesses. He previously served as Co-Head of Americas Special Situations at KKR and brings a deep network from over 20 years of global investment experience across public and private markets. Harlan graduated with a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Harlan is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Youth Renewal Fund and serves on the Board of Advisors of the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania.
